I had a sublet with a friend for my last bit of time in Wellington, which extended a week past the expiration of my working holiday visa. I applied for a tourist visa so I could spend three more months in New Zealand and enjoy one more summer. I had a grand time running around the city, visiting friends and saying goodbye.
Here's a Tui in flight, which I saw when I went to visit a friend who lives near Zealandia. The birdsong in this neighborhood is quite impressive!
There are several trees like this in the median on Kent Terrace, which I often walked on my way home. One day, I climbed up and sat in one for a bit.
I met a former coworker for lunch at Foxglove, a particularly fun little bar near the waterfront, on a particularly glorious spring day. (For my Denver friends, I honestly didn't notice the 303 until I pulled this picture out to add it to the blog.)
One day while wandering, I saw this in the bay. I'm not sure of the exact context, but this is a reenactment of a Māori waka going out to meet a European sailing ship.
On a completely unrelated errand, I went to Weta on Halloween. They had one of Dwalin's prosthetics from the Hobbit trilogy on display. Each arm hair was hand punched into the silicon.
That evening I went to a friend's Day of Dead/Halloween party. They had quite the garden. I love iris, and there were plenty in bloom this spring.
Wellington was an incredible place to live. I met so many wonderful people there and had such a fantastic experience living there. I was very sad to leave, but very excited to set out on a three-week road trip around the country!
