Armageddon Con

Armageddon Con is Wellington's biggest comic convention. There was a lot of fantastic cosplay, and I enjoyed running around taking pictures. The first one was my absolute favorite - the Dalek was fully functional, complete with a water pistol. The two tiny Doctors were an added, adorable bonus.

Karen Gillan was one of the guests at the con, which probably resulted in more Doctor Who cosplay. Lots of love for Eleven!

I was not the droid they were looking for.

Loved this gender-swapped Joker.

Furiosa! This wasn't too long after the movie had come out, so the cosplayer put some serious effort into getting this one ready to go.

A fearsome Batgirl.

The venue was a little odd, it took place in the outer hallway of the local stadium rather than in a big hall - mostly, because there aren't any convention centers in Wellington (yet!) large enough to hold an event like this. Sadly, this resulted in some pretty terrible traffic issues. But it was cool to see so much interest and passion in one place.

Suddenly realized the thing I am missing on this trip - I didn't bring a towel!

Some fantastic chest buster action.

Multi-pass!

Always happy to see Cap and Bucky.

I was super excited at first and thought this was a Squirrel Girl cosplay, but she kindly explained that she was a Pokemon. Still, fun!

There were a lot more great costumes, fun vendors* and activities, and some cool guest stars.  It was small, and oddly there wasn't any presence from Weta, but cons are always a good time.

*One of the vendors actually had some decent quality swords, and one of the women I was with was considering buying one on my recommendation - but the dude selling them lost the sale when he treated me as if I couldn't possibly know the difference between a combat quality blade and a wall hanger. Sigh.

One of the reasons there aren't more pictures of fabulous cosplay was that while I was at the con I received a call I had been dreading since stepping on the plane in San Francisco. My Grandmother had passed away at the grand old age of 92. She had led a long, full life and was ready to pass on, but that didn't make it any easier for the rest of us. With modern technology, most of the time it doesn't seem as if I'm that far away, but in this case the distance definitely made itself known. I did not go home for the funeral. Take every opportunity you have to tell (and show) the people you love that you love.
