I got up and had breakfast in the ballroom, which was lovely, though a bit weird since I was the only guest.
I then went to the World of Wearable Art and Classic Cars Museum. There's a big fashion show in Wellington every year, which was founded 25 years ago. Some of the pieces from prior years are on display at this museum. The show itself is part fashion show, part theatrical and dance extravaganza. Check it out! http://worldofwearableart.com
The first hall of the museum was devoted to the Bizarre Bras section.
I loved this steampunk creation.
The museum changes up its displays every May and November. Most of the pieces were from last year's competition. These are from the Weta Workshop Costume and Film Section.
This dress, and the dog, are made entirely from keyboard keys.
These costumes were all on static display:
And then there was a rotating display of costumes on a runway:
These three were part of a set, inspired by modern art.
These three are also part of a set, inspired by sea creatures.
Another set - made of hair.
This set was inspired by Chinese opera.
This was one of my favorites, inspired by the birth of Venus:
And I LOVED this set, inspired by Pacific sea spirits.
Really loved this one, too, the tree spirit:
This one, in the back, looks as if it came out of Oz. Another favorite:
And these were on a rotating disk behind the rotating rack:
One of the challenges from a prior year had been to create works that worked under UV light. These were pretty cool.
Next door was the classic car museum, and there were a few more pieces sprinkled in between the cars. This one is made entirely of seashells!
And this one, made by a British fashion student, was partly inspired by WWI and a production (not the one I saw) of the play Oh What a Lovely War:
And this was from the Children's Section, the theme for that year was reinventing the tutu.
