Melbourne Day Five (Part Two!)

After returning from the wine tour, I ventured out in search of some entertainment for my last night in Melbourne. I walked past this great old church along the way.

My choice of entertainment for the night was a "boylesque" show (Hi, Mom!) that was utterly fabulous and entertaining. I booked tickets for that and then ran down the street to grab some dinner at an open air cafe where a group of teenage boys were setting up to do a break dancing set. Great fun.

After the show, I walked past one of the municipal buildings, which had a trippy Christmas projection series. This picture doesn't quite do it justice.

Walking down the street I ran into the friends I had made on the wine tour earlier in the day, and we sat and had a hot chocolate before continuing on our merry ways.

One of the big department stores, Myer, does a big Christmas window display every year, so I stopped by there on my way home, as during the day the crowds were always too big for my taste. Last year's theme was based on a children's book called Little Dog and the Christmas Wish, in which a little dog runs after his boy, ends up lost on Christmas Eve, and has a series of adventures in downtown Melbourne circa 1956. The story is told by narration, and the window displays are all animatronic.

Of course, Little Dog makes it safely home to his family in the end.

The last window was a nod to a more traditional Christmas story.

I flew back to Dunedin early the next day, with plans to apply for a working holiday visa to Australia to live in Melbourne for a year. I have the visa and should be heading for Melbourne in mid-February of 2017.
